How it Works

Are you also wondering how it actually works? Here you can learn about the process.

So how does it Actually Work?

In Norway, some e-waste is collected from municipal recycling centers. Here, you can drop off everything from large household appliances like refrigerators and washing machines to small electronics and batteries. The e-waste is then collected by an approved producer responsibility organization like Recipo that ensures the waste is handled in a safe and environmentally friendly manner, allowing materials to be recycled and hazardous substances to be properly managed.

Did you know that you can also drop off e-waste at stores that sell electronics? Stores are obligated to accept e-waste free of charge. All stores must accept electronic waste of the same types of products they sell, regardless of the brand or whether the product was originally purchased from their store. Just like the e-waste collected at municipal recycling centers, the e-waste is then handed over to an approved producer responsibility organization like Recipo.

Collection Flow

1. Collection: Electronics and batteries are collected via recycling centers, stores, and other collection points.

2. Transport: The collected waste is safely transported to certified pre-treatment facilities.

3. Sorting: At the facility, the material is carefully sorted. Hazardous substances are handled separately to avoid environmental damage.

4. Recycling: Metals, plastics, glass, and other materials are recycled and processed into new raw materials. Waste containing hazardous substances that cannot be recycled is handled in an environmentally safe manner.

5. Manufacturing: The recycled raw materials are used to make new products, closing the loop and promoting a circular economy.

Collecting and recycling e-waste and spent batteries is crucial for reducing environmental impact and conserving natural resources. Electronic products contain many valuable materials that can be reused, but they also contain hazardous substances that must be managed properly to protect our environment and health.

By disposing of your e-waste and spent batteries at the appropriate locations, you contribute to creating a cleaner and more sustainable world. Together, we can reduce waste, recycle valuable resources, and protect our planet for future generations.
